What is Chaldean name numerology?
Every letter carries a number, and every name carries a vibration: the impression it leaves on people and the energy it attracts. Chaldean numerology, which originated in ancient Babylon, is considered the most precise system for analysing names because it assigns numbers by sound and vibration rather than simple alphabetical order.
The Chaldean number chart
| Number | Letters |
|---|---|
| 1 | A, I, J, Q, Y |
| 2 | B, K, R |
| 3 | C, G, L, S |
| 4 | D, M, T |
| 5 | E, H, N, X |
| 6 | U, V, W |
| 7 | O, Z |
| 8 | F, P |
The number 9 is not assigned to any letter in the Chaldean system, because it is considered sacred. It can still appear as a total.
How to calculate your name number
- Write the name you actually use every day and sign with.
- Convert each letter using the chart above.
- Add all the numbers to get the compound number.
- Reduce the compound number to a single digit to get the name number, keeping master numbers 11, 22 and 33.
Example: SARAH = S3 + A1 + R2 + A1 + H5 = 12, which reduces to 1+2 = 3.
Compound numbers: the hidden layer
Most online calculators stop at the single digit. Chaldean numerology also reads the compound number (10 to 80), which describes the hidden influence behind a name. Two names can both reduce to 5 but carry very different compounds: 23 is the Royal Star of the Lion, a very lucky number, while 14 is Storm, Fire and Flood, a challenging one. That is why this calculator shows both, and tells you whether your compound is classed as fortunate, average or challenging.
Business name numerology
A business name is repeated thousands of times by customers, staff and partners, so its vibration matters. Founders use name numerology when choosing a new company name, a product name or a rebrand. Ideally the brand number works with the owner's Birth Day Number and matches the brand's promise: a luxury brand suits the Venus energy of 6, and a sales-driven brand the Mercury energy of 5.
Does the name fit the owner?
A name is never judged alone. This calculator also compares the ruling planet of the name number with the owner's Birth Day Number (from the day of birth) and Life Path Number (from the full date of birth). The Birth Day Number is checked first: if the name goes well with it, the name can be kept. If not, the Life Path Number is considered, and the name may need a closer analysis or a correction. Friendly planets support each other; opposing planets can create friction between the name and the person behind it. For a business, enter the date of birth of the owner or main founder.
Compounds below 10 and above 80
The classical Cheiro compound table runs from 10 to 80. A name that adds up to less than 10 is read directly as a single number from 1 to 9. A name that adds up to more than 80 is added down to a single number: for example 163 becomes 1+6+3 = 10, then 1+0 = 1, and is read as Number 1.
Should you change the spelling of your name?
If your name conflicts with your date of birth, a small spelling adjustment can realign it, such as doubling a letter or adding one, while keeping the name natural and recognisable. This should be done carefully and tested against all your numbers, not just one. That is the focus of our Name & Brand Alignment consultation.
