Why do some people feel pulled toward the same kind of work, the same kind of life, again and again? In numerology, one number often explains this direction: your Life Path Number. It is worked out from your full date of birth, and you can find it in less than a minute.

At ORVAANA we also call it the Life Path (Destiny) Number. It is the same number, so you may see both names. New to numerology? Start with What Is Numerology? A Simple Guide.

What Is a Life Path Number?

Your Life Path Number comes from your complete date of birth: day, month and year. It shows the direction your life keeps moving toward, your natural strengths and the lessons you are here to learn. It never changes in your lifetime. Your name can be spelled in different ways, but your birth date stays the same, so many people see it as their main number.

How to Calculate It in 3 Simple Steps

  • Step 1: Write your date of birth in numbers.
  • Step 2: Add every digit together.
  • Step 3: If the answer has two digits, add them again until you get a single digit from 1 to 9.
5 October 1979: 5 + 1 + 0 + 1 + 9 + 7 + 9 = 32, and 3 + 2 = 5. Life Path Number 32 / 5.
Worked example

We show both parts: 32 / 5. The single digit (5) gives the main nature. The compound number (32) adds a deeper meaning. In Chaldean numerology, 32 is a fortunate number linked with success, fame and self-confidence.

More examples

  • 14 July 1985: 1+4+7+1+9+8+5 = 35, and 3 + 5 = 8. Life Path Number 35 / 8.
  • 28 November 1990: 2+8+1+1+1+9+9+0 = 31, and 3 + 1 = 4. Life Path Number 31 / 4.

Master Numbers: 11, 22 and 33

Some dates carry a Master Number. This happens when the day, month and year are each reduced to a single digit and then added to give 11, 22 or 33. Master Numbers carry extra potential and extra responsibility. If you think your date has one, a personal reading can confirm it.

How Your Life Path Number Can Guide Your Decisions

Numerology does not make decisions for you, and it cannot promise a result. What it can do is give you a simple framework. Your Life Path Number shows your natural style, so you can ask better questions before you choose. People often use it in three ways.

1. Know your natural style

Each number has a natural way of deciding. A 1 decides fast and alone. A 2 wants to talk to others first. A 5 may want to say yes to everything. A 7 needs quiet time and facts. Knowing your style helps you use your strength and avoid your usual mistake.

2. Match the choice to your strengths

  • Career: a 3 may enjoy teaching or advising, a 5 may enjoy sales and trade, an 8 may enjoy management and finance.
  • Business: a 1 does well leading a venture. A 2 does well with a trusted partner. A 4 does well building systems.
  • Relationships: a 6 needs a loving, steady home. A 7 needs space and trust. A 9 needs a shared purpose.

3. Choose your timing

Your Life Path Number stays the same, but each year has its own mood. Your Personal Year Number shows whether the year is better for starting, building, resting or finishing. Many people use the two together: Life Path for direction, Personal Year for timing.

A simple 4-step way to use numbers when you decide

  • Step 1: Write down the decision and the options, in plain words.
  • Step 2: Look at your Life Path Number. Which option fits your natural strengths? Which one touches your usual weak spot?
  • Step 3: Check your Personal Year and Personal Month. Is this a time to start, or a time to prepare?
  • Step 4: Now add the real facts: money, health, family, advice from people you trust. Decide, and take action.
Numbers give you a mirror, not a verdict. The final choice, and the effort behind it, is always yours.
The ORVAANA approach

Please do not use numerology in place of professional advice. For health, legal or money matters, speak to a qualified person first, and use numerology only as one extra point of view.

Life Path Number vs Birth Day Number

These two numbers are often mixed up.

  • Birth Day Number: comes only from the day you were born. If you were born on the 5th, your Birth Day Number is 5.
  • Life Path (Destiny) Number: comes from your whole date of birth.

Together they give a fuller picture. Your Birth Day Number shows how you behave day to day. Your Life Path Number shows where your life is heading.

Chaldean or Pythagorean: Which One Is Used?

Your Life Path Number is the same in both systems, because it uses only your birth date. The difference comes when you work out your name number. Pythagorean numerology gives letters A to Z the values 1 to 9 in simple order. Chaldean numerology, which ORVAANA uses, gives letters sound-based values, so the result can be different.
